Andrew King - Criminal Defence Solicitor
Andrew King recently joined Partners at Law following a successful career as a barrister over many years. Andrew operates within our Criminal and Family Law Departments whilst also lending his expertise to the field of Employment Law.
Andrew has responsibility for the running of all criminal matters at court level to include all aspects of DPP liaison, client instruction, briefing and engagement with Senior Counsel and Junior Counsel. His engagement with such matters usually commences upon arrest and interview by An Garda Síochána, through to charge and production in the District Court, through to trial before the Circuit or Central Criminal Court.
Andrew has an in-depth knowledge of issues concerning the disclosure of material in the trial process, to include the nuances of material in Books of Evidence, disclosure, Notices of Additional Evidence, Certificates in respect of certain maters pursuant to the Criminal Evidence Act 1992.
Andrew dealt with criminal trial matters from a counsel position prior to his conversion to solicitor and he has real trial experience, both in terms of conducting criminal trials and advising on prosecutions on indictment, issues of fitness to plead and matters to be considered in such prosecutions, having regard to the Mental Health Act 2001 and the Criminal Law (Insanity) Act 2006, to include the considerations of the sending forward for trial of accused persons for the issue of fitness to be determined.
Andrew has a vast knowledge of Judicial Review and has experience before the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in relation to both Judicial Review and cases stated before the Superior Courts and on appeal to Supreme Court.
Alongside a successful criminal litigation practice, Andrew also enjoyed a successful civil litigation practice, incorporating the fields of Family Law and Litigation, Debt Recovery, Banking and Finance and Employment Law with regular appearance at trial before the Workplace Relations Commission and acting in large scale mediation negotiations. Andrew also processed Judicial Review (in respect of both criminal and civil matters) applications and Family Law.
Andrew has appeared in several Case Stated proceedings before the High Court an in-depth knowledge of Superior Court proceedings and litigation.
